I Survived!

Greetings Friends and Family

Well, I survived my first four days of work (21 hours). Wednesday and Thursday I worked 9am to 3:30pm, with a half hour lunch. Friday I worked 9am to 2:30pm, with a half hour lunch. And today I worked 9am to 2pm, with an hour lunch. I have the next two days off (Sunday and Monday), and then back to work Tuesday morning at 9am. Once the season starts I will be working Friday, Saturday, and Sundays 3pm to 11pm and Mondays and Tuesdays 6am to 3pm. My days off will be Wednesdays and Thursdays.

The Super 8 Motel has three floors and 43 rooms. The first two days were mainly spent setting up motel rooms on the first floor (cleaning the bathrooms, making the beds, dusting, vacuuming, etc). The third day we changed the batteries in all the smoke detectors, remotes, and alarm clocks on the first floor. We also took inventory of all the supplies so we know what to order before we open the motel on May 1. Today we cleaned and set up the lobby of the motel. And when I say cleaned, I mean I was down on the floor with Murphy's Oil Soap, cleaning the baseboards. After I cleaned the baseboards and they dried, I went back over them with Old English lemon oil. Talk about manual labor!

Right now there's only two of us workers (me and a guy named Steve). We were actually hired to work the front desk and occasionally pitch in to clean a room. But, in the beginning and ending of the season, everybody does everything. On May 1 we're supposed to have an actual full time housekeeper and on June 1 we'll have about four foreign exchange students working in the housekeeping department.
